SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a server and carry out different tasks through a command line. The protocol is preferred by many experienced users, for the reason that the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be used for a number of things depending on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the hosting server allows for it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually anything - you may install software or restart certain services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used mostly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that permit you to use the protocol if your laptop or computer is using a different OS too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a number of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

SSH access is provided with all website hosting plans which we offer. With some of them, it is included by default, while with others it is an additional upgrade which you can add with a few clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access through the section related to it in which you can also find the info you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to choose the password which you'll use and, if necessary, you'll be able to modify it with a couple of clicks from the same spot. All the commands that may be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article together with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to get SSH access to it with simply a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with all accounts. If your plan does not support this feature by default, you'll be able to include it without difficulty via the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you'll find the details which you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated at any time, if needed. These login credentials are also needed if you'd like to upload files using a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we offer. An extensive list of the commands you can execute will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you could perform in your account and each one is accompanied by a couple of instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

When you obtain a new VPS server from our company, it shall come with full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to manage everything through an SSH console. The feature comes by default with all plans, so you shall not need to allow or upgrade anything. Your website hosting server shall be set up shortly after you get it and the moment you receive the Welcome e mail with the login details, you could connect through the server’s primary IP address and start working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there won't be any restrictions regarding the commands which you can use. You will have full root access, so that you could set up and run any application that can work on a Linux web server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software running on it.
