Creating a CNAME record for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains you have in the hosting account will allow you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all of its records - A, MX etc, and will take the records of the domain it's being redirected to. In this light, you cannot set up a CNAME record to forward your domain name to a third-party provider and keep a working e-mail service with the first hosting provider. It's also important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it's commonly mistaken for the A record of the domain being redirected. One of the primary uses of a CNAME record is to point a domain address that you own through one provider to the servers of another company when you have created a website with the latter. In this way, the site will appear under your own domain, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Website Hosting

You can easily create CNAME records if you have a website hosting plan from our company. We will provide you with an easy-to-use CP where you can view all DNS records for the domains and subdomains that are hosted in the account. Creating a CNAME record involves a few easy steps - pick the domain/subdomain, pick CNAME as the type, type in the hostname you are forwarding to, then simply click on the Save button. The process is as basic as that and the new record will be active almost immediately. In this way, you'll have more control over your domain addresses and subdomains and over the content they open, you'll be able to set up a private URL for company e-mails, plus much more. If you feel uncertain about how to create a new record or you have never done such a task, you will find a short video tutorial where you can see the whole process first-hand. If you want to edit or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it'll require literally only a click to do it.
